The song serves as an anthem of having the strength and courage to overcome your battles and not give up. The song explores various people throughout the song, like gamblers, drug addicts, broken soldiers, fatherless children, and much more. Despite all the hardships these people faced, and having to battle the dark thoughts that came with it, they're all still alive, still breathing. The main focus of the song is about a drug addict, showing how he's barely living but questioning if it's really his fault. He deeply knows that no one will help him, yet still travels hoping to find people that he can relate with. Despite everything, he still believes that one day, someone or something will help turn his life around.
